Geographically located at the very heart of the city, the island offers rocky shores, swimming spots, and a small marina – all within walking or cycling distance from the city centre.Our buildings are located close to the island’s public beach, restaurants, and grocery shop. You’ll also find a local park with a paddling pool, bus stop, and tram line nearby.Stora Essingen has a cosy, village-like feel with neighbourhood pubs, a delicatessen, grocery shops, a convenience store with postal services, pizzerias, and cafés.
Enjoy beautiful waterfront walks and views from the island’s bridges. From Kungsklippan, the island’s highest point, there’s a stunning view of Västerbron and Riddarfjärden with the Old Town in the background. To the south, you can see Hägersten and Mälarhöjden.Across the strait from the island’s western beach are Äppelviken and Alvik. The tram bridge to Bromma is closed to cars, but has both footpaths and a cycle lane. From the tram platform, you can see Fredhäll, Traneberg, and parts of Solna.

Stora Essingen is well connected by public transport, including tram services, Bus Line 1, and night bus 91.
In summer, a boat service runs from Värdshusbryggan to City Hall and Drottningholm. Bus Line 1 is one of Stockholm’s main routes, stopping at Fridhemsplan, the Central Station, Arlanda Express, Kungsgatan, Stureplan, and on to Östermalm.
The tram (Tvärbanan) runs between Sickla Udde and Bromma Airport, with stops at Globen, Årsta, Gröndal, and Alvik.
